A child’s facial development is evolves downward and forward. Traditional orthodontics which is still taught in most programs solves a patient’s crowding problem by extracting teeth. With the additional space from the removed teeth, the remaining teeth in the upper or lower jaws are brought together to fix the crowding, but also has the unfortunate side-effect of constricting the upper or lower jaws.
